I returned to Arkansas June 30, 2010. After an exhausting flight back home I lukily made it to my first interview for a teaching position on the same day.  Amazingly I was offered the position at the end of the interview.  July 1, 2010 I had another interview with another school.  I really wanted the job and again was surprised by how smooth the interview went and by the schools interest in me.  I was also offered the job at the second school so I just needed to make a decision.  I was discouraged about finding a teaching job upon my return.  I attribute their interest to my teaching experience in China and Taiwan.  Both schools were eager to hear about new classroom management techniques that I had learned and practiced abroad and the cultural experiences that I had made.   I think that I will really enjoy my new job.  I am now a 5th grade literacy teacher in the Hot Springs School District.  I teach at Park International Magnet School.  The school follows the International Baccalaureate program so I will receive IB training that I will use when I continue teaching internationally.  I couldn't be happier with the position. 

Again I want to encourage all teachers to take the opportunity to visit Taiwan and learn, explore, feast, and appreciate Taiwan.  For beginning teachers I think it is especially great because you get to have international teaching experience early in your career, which gives you an edge in the job market upon return.

Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it !
